The Valve Spool is responsible for directing hydraulic fluid to the appropriate transmission gear positions. The Spool has different lands and passages that align with various ports, enabling the transmission to shift into the desired gear. As the operator selects a gear using the shift lever, the movement of the spool corresponds to the chosen gear, allowing hydraulic pressure to engage the appropriate clutch or brake to achieve the desired gear ratio. The Valve Spool's position determines the size of the flow passages and the pressure applied to specific components within the transmission. By accurately controlling pressure, the valve spool contributes to the efficient operation and durability of the transmission. It consists of parts like Filter, Seal-O-Ring, Pin, and Dowel.
