An Idler Gear consists of a circular disc with teeth on its outer circumference. These teeth mesh with the teeth of other gears within a gear train. It is to maintain the proper spacing and direction of rotation between two adjacent gears. It is mounted on a shaft, which can be supported by bearings or other mechanical components. The shaft allows the idler gear to rotate freely.

Attributes:
• Helps distribute power evenly between the drive gear and the driven gear
• Absorbing some of the shock and minimizing the transmission of vibrations

Applications:
An Idler Gear is a gear that is used to change the direction of rotation or to maintain proper timing between the crankshaft and the camshaft.
