An aftercooler also known as an intercooler, is a device used to cool the compressed air that comes out of a turbocharger or a supercharger in an internal combustion engine. This cooled air is denser, allowing for more fuel to be burned and thus increasing engine power. It is a heat exchanger made up of a series of thin tubes or passages, with fins attached to the tubes to increase their surface area.
